FAQ

How to use fatty alcohol defoamer in papermaking

  • Add method

Direct addition: Fatty alcohol defoamer can be directly added to the papermaking system in the form of stock solution, and is suitable for areas where foam generation is more concentrated.

Add after dilution: You can also dilute it 1-3 times with clean water first, and then add it dropwise to the pulp tank, high-level box, mesh tank and other foam-generating areas. The diluted defoamer should be used as soon as possible to ensure its effect.

  • Add Location

Pulping section: In pulping mills, defoamers are generally added in bleaching and washing sections, such as pulp washers, thickeners and pulp tanks.

Papermaking section: During the papermaking process, defoamers are usually added to the paper machine headbox, pulp pool, coating and size press.

White water system: Continuously adding water in the white water pool or external white water tank can effectively control the system foam.

  • Addition amount

Depending on the different papermaking systems, the addition amount of fatty alcohol defoamer is generally 0.01%-0.2% of the foaming system.

In practical applications, the dosage is usually 50-1000g/ton of paper. The specific dosage needs to be adjusted according to factors such as paper type, use of papermaking additives, production speed, and slurry air content.

  • Usage Tips

Multi-point addition: Adding different types of defoamers at distant locations is more economical and effective than using a high concentration of one defoamer. For example, one defoamer can be added before the beater and another at the headbox.

Small test verification: It is recommended to conduct a small test before use to avoid abnormal situations.
