GR-901 Ti02 sulfur recovery catalyst
The GR-901 catalyst is an innovative sulfur recovery catalyst based on titanium dioxide (TiO₂). Its most significant feature is its exceptional resistance to sulfation. Unlike traditional alumina-based catalysts, it is less susceptible to deactivation in oxygen-containing environments, resulting in more stable and reliable performance.
The catalyst demonstrates near-perfect efficiency in two core reactions: the efficient hydrolysis of organic sulfur (such as COS and CS₂) in process gas to H₂S, and the catalytic Claus reaction of H₂S with SO₂ to produce elemental sulfur. Its high activity nearly reaches the theoretical equilibrium conversion limit.
GR-901's core advantage lies in its unparalleled resistance to oxygen poisoning. It can tolerate oxygen concentrations up to 2000 ppm without compromising hydrolysis activity, and even in the presence of an extreme "oxygen leak" of 10,000 ppm, Claus reaction activity is maintained.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

GR-901catalyst is a Tio2-based sulfur recovery catalyst that is resistant to sulfation. compared with the GR203-based catalyst currently being promoted in industry, this catalyst has the following characteristics.

(1)It has higher catalytic activity for the hydrolysis reaction of organic sulfides and theclaus reaction of H2sand so2, almost reaching thermodynamic equilibrium.

(2)It is not sensitive to"leaking o2"poisoning. The tolerance to"leaking o2"poisoning is 2000ppm for the hydrolysis reaction and up to10000ppm for the claus reaction. once the influence of high concentration o2i selim i noted, the activity is almost completely restored. (3)To achieve the same conversion rate level,a shorter contact time of about3seconds is allowed,which is equivalent to a space velocity of1000h-1to1200h-1, so the reactor volume can be reduced.

GR-901catalyst can be used in the full bed of any primary reactor of the sulfur recovery unit or in layered loading with other catalysts of different functions or types. when used in layered loading, the GR-901catalyst can be loaded in the lower part of the first reactor bed where the temperature is higher, accounting for about1/3to1/2of the total volume of the bed, to facilitate the hydrolysis reaction of org onic sulfides.

What is catalyst "sulfation"? Why is GR-901 resistant to it?

"Sulfation" refers to the reaction of the active surface of traditional alumina catalysts with oxygen and SO₂ in an oxygen-containing environment to form inert aluminum sulfate, resulting in permanent deactivation. GR-901, supported on TiO₂, has a stable surface chemical property and is not susceptible to reaction with sulfur oxides to form sulfates. Therefore, it is fundamentally resistant to sulfation and insensitive to oxygen.

Why is the "oxygen leak" resistance property so important?

In actual operation, fluctuations in feed, air control valve failure, or operational errors can all lead to excessive oxygen entering the reactor, which can be catastrophic for traditional catalysts. GR-901's oxygen tolerance provides significant operational flexibility and a safety buffer, avoiding unplanned shutdowns and catalyst failure caused by unexpected oxygen breakthrough, greatly improving plant reliability.

What is the practical engineering value of allowing shorter contact times (higher space velocities)?

This means that, while achieving the same conversion rate, less catalyst loading is required, or the reactor volume can be designed to be smaller. For new plants, this can directly reduce reactor manufacturing costs and floor space. For existing plants, replacing it with the GR-901 reactor can potentially increase processing capacity (expand capacity).

Why is the GR-901 reactor recommended for installation in the lower portion of the first reactor?

The lower portion of the first reactor is where the process gas temperature is highest. High temperatures are conducive to the hydrolysis of organic sulfur compounds (COS, CS₂). Placing the GR-901 reactor here maximizes its exceptionally high organic sulfur hydrolysis activity, preemptively converting these difficult-to-convert impurities into H₂S. This creates optimal conditions for the Claus reaction in the subsequent bed, significantly improving overall sulfur recovery.

What types of acid gas are suitable for the GR-901 reactor?

It is particularly suitable for treating acid gases with high organic sulfur content or unstable oxygen content, such as acid gases from coal gasification, coke oven gas purification, and certain refining processes (such as coking and fluid catalytic cracking).
